Microsoft buy GitHub for $7.5bn

You probably think that this is all a bunch of geek technology stuff, hey hold up a minute and give me a chance to explain what is happening in the world of tech that you have embraced in your daily lives.GitHub, it all started the history when two guys founded the company, Tom Warner and Chris. But first let us break down what this company does, GitHub is a consolidation and tracking point for software development, a Git is a virtual control mechanism or team coordination mechanism developed by the founder of Linus operating system, Linus.

So with this tracking mechanism helps in controlling versions, giving software developers tools so as they can work together, hence GitHub makes a cloud that could store their code, keep track of versions, tracking and communicating to each other if they decide to share their code with each other, hence creating a sandbox where developers around the world can come together and work and create something that is interesting also companies like Facebook and IBM use this innovation to improve their services.

In 2009 GitHub had about 46k developers accounts that were in place which is an amazing growth since they basically used their own capital to start it, a year later the numbers hit about 100k users accounts but halfway through 2010 they were already at 1M users accounts, something interesting was going on here and the whole world was interested in this, now a year later the numbers multiplied to 2M users accounts and passed Source Forge and Google.

But we all know that when it is time to grow we need quite some heavy capital and they got some from Michael, the developer and inventor of the original Netscape browser who obviously knows a thing or two about what developers would appreciate and need hence they put in $100M for 13% of the company from there the growth continues, in 2013 the company hit 3M users accounts and then 5M hence taking up a global presence, there are a tone of developers around the world who are storing code in GitHub and storing versions to other things that did not please certain governments, in 2014 India decides to block them because they had some documentation that was related to ISIS and the Indian government did not like that hence did not want it to circulate to developers who might be using GitHub, also in Russia they were very upset because there was like a suicide manual that had been placed in it and blocked its access to the country.

In 2015 China gets upset and wants to block GitHub for they were campaigning on how to avoid internet censorship, there was a major issue going on with the Chinese government a tried to shut down the cable channels and objectionable programs but to be honest one of the things that can be shut down is the internet shut down one and ten new ones pop out.

In 2015 GitHub raise $250M of capital from Sequoia worth 12.5% of the company, normally by this time a company is completely flipped leaving 25% for management and 75% in the hand of the investors, but GitHub proved to be a very valuable company and gave up a very small percent of the company as compared to other situation, in 2016 they had approximately made $99M in profit during the first nine months but lost $68M hence showing that is not easy to create a GitHub that the whole world could come to use resulting to 20M+ users accounts.

Unfortunately, in 2014 Tom, one of the founders of GitHub was pushed out by the board for misconduct with his employees
Now with all of this success, GitHub now drives attention from the tech giant, Microsoft with the 28M developers and 1M businesses working with GitHub, Microsoft was the most active among them and were impressed that it was properly functioning and they had various product with GitHub for collaboration and using it to help developers to collaborate which becomes an interesting factor since Microsoft has been trying to kill open source code and they are planning on integrating with a worldwide developers program, but Microsoft is changing as well as the world is, so they decided to write a whopping $7.5bn cheque hence beating the value of the whole company by  3.75 time just 3 years down the line creating a huge growth curve.

Also there was something that happened to GitHub, a distributed denial of service occurred which is where some bad developer either uses a common dear, thousands of PC’s which some are infected with viruses that causes them to go into “zombie” mode that can be controlled by theses hackers and they attempt to hit individual websites with so much traffic that servers crash since the website is trying to react to all of these requests at the same time that when a person tries to access it they can get there but the browser will load “forever” now according to our case this made one of the worst distributed denial of service hit ever with 1.35TB resulting to about 167,850 MBS of data that your browser will try to capture at the same time hence bringing GitHub to its knees.

So Microsoft quickly figured out how to stop the DDS scam and how to reroute this traffic and to do things to get out of it so that people that are using GitHub can gain back their confidence and security in it, so Microsoft took the vice president of developer relation as the CEO of GitHub and also set up a cloud to interact with the user interface, so time will tell if this project will work out or not, love to hear what you think about this, leave a comment below and start a conversation on this topic.
