Microsoft power the internet from the sea

The giant tech company, Microsoft has come up with an idea to power the internet from the sea with an aim to provide internet services more efficiently to the costal services using renewable energy. This station will be a data center which are the internet backbones that store huge amounts of information.

Microsoft has placed this data center on the seafloor close to Scotland’s Orkney Islands that is fully submerged 117 feet underwater powered by a marine cable running all the way from Orkney, and this spot was picked because Microsoft wants its data center to run on 100% renewable energy.

This project was called Project Natrick and it was originally developed by a Microsoft employee then the companies’ Artificial Intelligence and research division took over the project and modified it in 2014. One of the main goal of this project is to deploy data centers at intervals worldwide within 90 days, even though setting up a fully functional data center can take up to 2 years to set up, the speed can be boosted up considering how the world is fast adapting to the internet concept.

To proof this concept Microsoft placed a test run data center in the calm waters of California which operated for 150 days and they named it Leona Philpot, this project passed as the vessel proved to be fully waterproof and set up another data center that will be operational for the next five years off the coast of Scotland, then later Microsoft collaborated with French company called Naval group who are experts in building submarine coolants and also data centers coolants  to build one in the Northern Isles waters.

The external shell is made up of 864 servers and a cooling system. This sophisticated 40 foot that can store up to 50 million movies and series machinery was assembled in France and shipped to Scotland for deployment.
It was then filled with ballast at the base an and slowly submerged into the water,  then when half of its body was submerged in the water a remote operated machinery plugged the data center to its powers source made of fibre optic, running from Orkey powering it on.

This data center was now lowered unto 117 feet below the sea with the help of a crane, gantry barge and remotely operated machines, then Microsoft developers will now keep an eye on their operational environments serving only as an experimental machine
